Hi Ron,
I look after the ZL1AB F6FBB BBS. It runs DOS 6.2 &
F6FBB V7. The same 486 PC runs a ten port DOS BPQ
Packet switch (so max of ten users can connect at
once) and an Ethernet card. The Ethernet cable goes to
a second DOS 6.2 PC (another 486) than runs DOS
Xrouter with three serial ports to KISS TNCs & radios.
Xrouter handles AX25 connections as well as TCPIP
connections on any port. ZL1AB has one 2m port, one
1k2 70cm port & one 9k6 70cm port.
Xrouter supports NETROM node tables, Telnet, Chat
server, local PMS, APRS digipeating, APRS messaging
client and has a basic HTTP server built in. It has
L2, L3 & L4 link features.
In our use Xrouter is the Front End Processor for the
F6FBB BBS.
You can configure Xrouter in many ways & likely decide
that some ports will only accept TCPIP connections, if
you desire it so. There is a Yahoogroup for Xrouter.
I don't think it does USB ports, but there should be
some older hardware out there with serial ports & a
slot for an Ethernet card to get you going.
I don't know about running a CD ROM drive for a
callbook lookup as the ZL1AB system doesn't have CD
ROM drives equipped. The F6FBB V7 has a White Pages
server fitted for handling addresses of amateurs.
The whole thing lives in the North Shore City
Emergency Management Centre where there is a back up
generator to run things when the mains power fails.
I go there once a month to back up the files from one
HDD to another HDD. I also delete the old mail &
bulletin files. Being DOS it runs without much
trouble. A HDD lasts a couple of years before it gives
out. The HDDs are not new being donated by the BBS
users & supporters.

Wanting to upgrade the DOS FBB program to at least the
WFBB16 program
and
possibly
WinFBB32. Have some questions that I don't find
answers to in the
manual.
Don't know if
anyone has asked these questions before, but don't
recall seeing
anything so
here goes.
1a. Will the WFBB16 program run USB ports so we can
use USB to
Serial Port
adapters)?
b. Will it run 1 to 4 expander USB ports?
c. Or is that reserved to the 32bit version only?
d. How do you set up the port.sys to run on USB?
2. We run Buckmaster Call Book CDROM and would like
to continue
running it.
Will WFBB16 run that program? If we should try
to upgrade to the
32bit
version, will
it run the call book CDROM. Owner wants to keep
the call book
Still looking for a way to get the DOS version to run
TCP/IP on
specified
ports and keeping
standard Packet on others. Any suggestions.
Ron, k9rki
Sysop only
